Spineless Classics announce sale of poster novels at John Lewis

Spineless Classics has announced a deal to sell its Book On One Page posters at John Lewis stores over Christmas.

The London-based firm prints whole novels on sheets of B1 or A40 paper, with past titles including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 'The Hound of the Baskervilles', William Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet' and Lewis Carroll's 'Alice in Wonderland'.

A special print of L. Frank Baum's 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' will also go on sale at John Lewis stores over the festive period.

This story will be available for £120 when presented in a frame, although unframed versions can be acquired for as little as £44.99 according to prices at spinelessclassics.com.

Although Spineless Classics is the brains behind these blown-up tales, the poster printers at Victoria Litho were commissioned for the production side of things.

According to printweek.com the firm used a KBA Rapida 162 machine with UV drying capability to produce the black & white posters, which are printed onto 170gsm Lumisilk paper.

Spineless Classics managing director Carl Pappenheim said production was a real eye-opener for his team as they discovered how the number of columns affected whether the book would fit onto a single page.

"Some books will have lots of short paragraphs and so even though you are wasting space in the gutters, more columns buy you more space. 'The Hound of the Baskervilles begins with lots of dialogue but at the end there is a bunch of big paragraphs of action," he stated.

"The format is unique in allowing you to notice that. It's fun that it has revealed aspects of the book that no-one would have otherwise seen."
