The falling pound: price rises and how we’re fighting them

The result of the British vote on the EU Referendum has had some impact on the financial markets, creating a complex situation for resellers in B2B. Sterling has dropped in value against the Euro and US Dollar, forcing manufacturers to raise their gate prices in a scramble to protect margins and maintain profitability.

Because of the routes of trade within the printing industry, particularly for consumables but also equipment and parts, this means that we all have some challenges ahead. As a value-added reseller Perfect Colours is committed to absorbing as much of these costs as possible and keeping price increases to a minimum. We have already renegotiated where possible with our suppliers, reworking profit margins that were already slim to ensure that business continues as normally as possible for you, our customers.

Currently, only a few manufacturers have shown their hand with some consumables products affected. But with additional price fluctuations likely, we at Perfect Colours are promoting solutions and developing training to help you save money and decrease the impact of these changes.

For example, we’re now encouraging all our customers to consider the following options for maintaining profitability across the applications you product, with supporting training in our demo room where necessary.

– Are you making full use of the ink optimisation software in your RIP suite? Caldera, GMG and Onyx all contain modules that can help you save up to 20% on your ink costs.

– Consider ordering longer and larger media rolls, and more of them in a single batch, to drive down transportation costs and negotiate better discounts over larger orders.

– Have you thought about upgrading your printer? This could provide better economies of scale, speed across square metrage and other advantages – but primarily newer models use less power, consume less ink and are generally more productive.

If you’re in any doubt, please call our hotline and discuss these opportunities with our sales team – we’ll be happy to advise. Also ask us about forthcoming training options.
