Canon’s Océ Colorado installations top 1,000!

You might have heard us extolling the virtues of Canon’s revolutionary Océ Colorado over recent months – and now here’s the proof that this superb UVgel-technology printer is making waves. In what seems like no time at all since its launch, Canon has installed more than 1,000 Colorados across the globe. And in the last two months, the installed base of Colorado 1640 and 1650 printers has achieved combined monthly print volumes of more than one million square metres.

The stats tell a story

As more and more Colorado devices are installed, the production volumes are climbing beyond expectation – 16 percent of users are now producing more than 25,000 square metres per year on their Colorados. These figures bear out what users have been reporting so far: the Océ Colorado 1640 and 1650 printers offer excellent productivity and are ideally suited for applications where robust short-term graphics are needed without lamination. The top speeds are a game changer in terms of what operators can now offer their customers.

The story continues

At FESPA 2019, Canon introduced the Colorado 1650 as a second member of its UVgel technology offering, along with a new flexible ink that allows for the production of applications that need to be folded, wrapped or bent, such as soft signage, framed canvasses, front and backlit graphics, surface décor applications including flexible wall coverings and outdoor applications such as vehicle graphics. The new 1650 also features Canon’s unique FLX finish technology, which offers the choice of gloss or matte effects without the need to change ink or media. The result equates to a broadening range of business and creative opportunities over a wide range of market sectors.

According to Dirk Brouns, Vice President Large Format Graphics, Océ Technologies, “We’re working in a dynamic market with constantly evolving application requirements. Our R&D philosophy is to listen and work closely with our customers and partners to focus our innovation on actual customer demand. After the initial success of the 1640, we identified further grown opportunities for customers who can benefit from a matte finish and a more flexible ink. With both the 1640 and 1650 solutions, we can now meet any roll-to-roll print need.”

Colorado users are reaping the rewards of Canon’s strategic innovation programme, as the company has focused on developing their own large format print engine, their own unique UVgel ink and their own printheads. As one of the only digital printer manufacturers with this capability, they’ve been able to create an optimised production technology that perfectly meets the needs of a wide range of print producers.
