Living with my Durst Omega 2
Martyn Young from First Print Talks about his First Year of Ownership
Sunderland based print service providers First 2 Print prides itself on being one of the first companies to take delivery of a Durst Omega 2 LED Flatbed printer supplied by sole distributor Perfect Colours. We catch up with Martyn Young MD after a year of ownership to understand the impact the Omega has made on the business
Young explains "Over the last year we run over 12,000 SQ Meters and the Durst has certainly lived up to its reputation of superior build quality and reliability" He continues "The print quality that is produced simply stunning and has impressed our clients so much that demand for work produced on the Omega has increased massively since we took delivery last year. To keep up with demand we have had to run several jobs non-stop for 24 hours a day seven days a week and the printer has not missed a beat."
When asked what he would compare the quality of output to Martyn replied "Lots of our clients have become familiar with the quality of output produced by our current line-up of HP Designjet and HP Latex printers and we needed the ability to replicate this, printing directly onto on to solid substrates. The Durst certainly delivers this whilst also satisfying the need for a "Green" or environmentally friendly solution thanks to the Greenguard inks". Young continues "The running costs of the Durst Omega 2 are low and we have calculated that is costs around £0.62 a square meter using six colours with white with near total coverage on most substrates. The supplied Caldera RIP has also been a massive bonus and we have since upgraded the software to drive most of our other devices, which has helped us streamline our workflow overall." He concludes "The Omega2 is certainly a market leader and I would recommend it to anyone who has a requirement for production high quality substrates onto solid and flexible Medias."
