Over the course of our next two blogs we'll be showing you how to move into fine art and photography printing: from the machines you'll need to the best consumables and finishing materials to use for these types of application.

We've handpicked some amazing HP Designjet printers have a low total cost of ownership while still producing artwork of an exceptional quality. These machines are ideal for short-run work and are suitable for professional wedding photographers, museums and educational institutions, or even artists that want to reproduce their wares to sell.

HP Designjet Z2100

At the lower end of the spectrum we have a perfect entry-level machine in the form of the 24in Z2100. It comes with HP's previewing technology and the HP Color Center tool, making colour management and wide-format printing easy for even the most inexperienced user.

This machine takes eight ink cartridges, three of which are dedicated to different shades of black. The addition of the matte black, photo black and light grey allow you to produce rich prints without having to swap out cartridges and waste ink. Not only this, but the machine can shoot out 40 A1 prints per hour.

HP Designjet Z5400

This 44in ePrinter is enabled with HP's ePrint and Share and lets you print from any device, anywhere in the world. It incorporates the same three black inks as the Z2100 while achieving up to 2,400 x 1,200dpi print quality.

The Z5400, meanwhile, is ideal for reproducing fine art prints, thanks to HP's advance Multi-Dimensional Smart Drop Technology, which automatically corrects ink drop errors to create perfect prints the first time round. This engine is designed for longer runs, with multi-roll capabilities and automatic media switching to save on time and labour costs.

HP Designjet Z3200

Finally we have Z3200. In the immortal words of Shakespeare: "Though she be but little she is fierce."

This 24in engine is a twelve-ink device a built-in spectrophotometer that enables the user to easily build on existing colour profiles. It incorporates HP's chromatic red ink to expand its gamut, while the machine itself boasts 95 percent Pantone coverage.

In addition to this, the printer comes with PostScript integrated, ensuring the highest picture quality whilst allowing for direct job submitting, queuing and nesting. For further peace of mind, the Z3200 has an Optical Drop Detector to prevent nozzle clogging and printing errors.

Make sure to stay tuned for the second instalment of this blog, where we'll be covering laminators, media and inks to help you make the right choices for your production. If you have any further questions about the machines mentioned, give us a call on 0845 680 9000 or contact us here.
